Cupressus sempervirens - Crete

Cypress oil has a sweet, balsamic aroma that is slightly similar to Pine or Juniper Berry.

It is an essential oil made through the process of steam distillation from the twigs, stems, and leaves of the Cypress tree. Our superb Cypress essential oil, from its native isle of Crete, is made from Cupressus sempervirens, also known as Mediterranean cypress.

Primarily Greece and Mediterranean regions, but can also come from Argentina and Spain. Steam distillation primarily of the fresh leaves, but it can include the twigs and cones.

Cypress oil’s most noted actions on the physical plane is the regulation of fluid movement including relief of: excessive sweating, edema, hemostatic actions [i.e., counteraction of bleeding, including nose bleeds, heavy menstrual bleeding], varicose veins and hemorrhoids via venous constriction, sex hormonal dysregulation, bedwetting in children, and uncontrolled crying. Hormones are secreted in a fluid matrix and transported via fluid mediums. Because Cypress is brilliantly impactful in creating and maintaining healthy fluid flows in the body, it can also support hormonal imbalances that have at their root fluid stagnation issues.

The therapeutic properties of Cypress are rich. In addition to the information above about Cypress sex hormones, Cypress is excellent for circulation and treats many different types of conditions that involves fluid regulation issues: This can include edema, Pelvic dampness, swelling and lymphatic stagnation. It aids in toxin removal and can actually help promote sweating. It treats muscle cramps and spasms and is known to support restless leg syndrome as well as pain from peripheral neuropathy. It works wonderfully in a liniment made for painful arthritic joints. It has an affinity for the lungs, opening and relaxing airways and treating spasmodic coughs. In Chinese Medicine the Lungs and the Colon are connected through the Metal Element (and the season of Fall time). Indeed, we see the support of the large intestine with Cypress; helping transit time and chronic constipation as well as loose stool (it helps regulate healthy fluid / water volume in the colon.

Cypress essential oil harbors both a specific and slightly mysterious interplay between the major themes of death, grief, issues surrounding the father and the search for values. These are Metal themes according to Chinese Five Element theory and as such have resonate notes with healing and trauma involving loss, longing and events that impact one’s sense and “knowing” of inherent worth. Along with this we see themes and trends towards loneliness, isolation and aloofness, or the opposite -with themes of congestion, sinking and clinging energies and behaviors including addictions. Cypress is a key ally in supporting the transmutation of all the above; moving from a dry, almost smoky type of energy that may be filled with grief, loss or longing to a sense of healthy righteousness and inspiration that feels as if it's coming from heaven itself. Conversely, Cypress can also support the movement from sticky, boggy emotional and mental states to those of precision, healthy detachment and clarity. Cypress is a most powerful ally in treating / supporting divine transmutation of all wounds connected to lack of acknowledgment, withholding and abandonment by means of “ghosting” (disappearing without explanation). It ministers to some of the deepest grief in the collective, divinely supporting us in coming home to that which is of most value.
